Jack Nicklaus was on hand for the grand opening of the “Golf Park” at the Heber City, Utah property. The par-36 course ranges from 1,310 to 1,717 yards, with each green including two holes, one a standard four-inch hole and the other an eight-inch hole.
Jack Nicklaus was on hand for the grand opening of his latest golf course design—a unique “Golf Park” of 12 par-3 holes at Red Ledges in Heber City, Utah, the Salt Lake City (Utah) Tribune reported.
The Golden Bear said the layout it is nothing like the ultra-challenging 18-hole course at Red Ledges he designed nearly a decade ago and opened in 2009. The Golf Park was initially designed to be a nine-hole executive course, with two par-4s, but Nicklaus decided to alter the plans midstream and suggested to Red Ledges managing partner Tony Burns that they should go for something “unique and different” and more playable for families and below-average golfers, the Tribune reported.
“We’ve ended up with something that is very creative, and something I’ve never seen anywhere else,” Nicklaus said.
Red Ledges members will be able to use the layout like they would a park, having picnics, walking their dogs, flying kites or throwing frisbees around and “anything else they can think of,” Nicklaus said.
The par-36 course will range from 1,310 to 1,717 yards, depending on which of four tees per hole golfers decide to play. Each green will include two holes (and two flags) to aim at, one a standard four-inch hole and the other an eight-inch hole, all in the name of giving confidence to beginners and youngsters, the Tribune reported.
“You are going to see a lot of hole-in-ones,” said Nicklaus, who has made 21 in his famed career. “And that’s a good thing.”
