At The Grove, a community being developed around a Greg Norman signature golf course in College Grove, Tenn., only 40% of residents are golfers, but non-golfers still find the community’s amenities appealing, including pools, tennis offerings, social activities, a clubhouse, and green space.
Bob Hutchins isn’t a golfer, but he doesn’t see anything unusual about his decision to live in one of Williamson County’s growing golf communities, the Nashville-based Tennessean reported.
“Whether or not Westhaven has a golf course is irrelevant to us,” said Hutchins.
He and his wife, Kellie Hutchins—who doesn’t play, either—have lived in the Franklin, Tenn., community since its founding about 12 years ago. They were among the first 30 residents and were attracted by its traditional neighborhood design, known as New Urbanism, the Tennessean reported.
“We see the golf course as a nice perk. The green space. The (property) values,” Hutchins said.
He’s not the only non-golfer who sees the appeal of living near the quiet, manicured green space of a golf course. At The Grove, a luxury community being developed around a Greg Norman signature golf course in College Grove, only about 40% of residents hit the links, the Tennessean reported.
A similar number is expected at Hideaway at Arrington in College Grove, Tenn., Williamson County’s newest golf community. “Our goal is to be a lifestyle community,” said General Manager Johan Kok.
All three communities include pools, tennis, social activities and a clubhouse. When home construction is finished several years from now, Hideaway at Arrington will have 482 homes built around a 7,080-yard course on property once owned by country music star Tanya Tucker. The course is open for preview rounds by members, and a pool house should be complete by fall. The 16,000-sq. ft. clubhouse is expected to open by Memorial Day 2017, the Tennessean reported.
Kok expects homeowners to be a mix of younger couples with children and downsizers from Brentwood and as far away as California, the Tennessean reported.
The Grove will have 820 homes when it is complete. To date, nearly 300 home sites have been purchased and about 200 houses have been finished or are under construction, said Mark Enderle, a partner in Terra Verde, the company developing the community. The clubhouse and other amenities are complete, the Tennessean reported.
“Now, you build the lifestyle,” which includes summer camp for kids, a chef who prepares meals for residents ranging from fine dining to takeout and the opening of a general store where residents can get items such as a carton of milk, the Tennessean reported.
Andy Ferguson, vice president of Legend Homes, said the company is building homes in Westhaven, The Grove and Hideaway at Arrington. “Even if you’re not a golfer, these communities have everything. People are drawn to the amenities, the lifestyle,” he said.
Even golfers are attracted to golf communities for the lifestyle, not just the convenience of having the course nearby, the Tennessean reported.
“I think of Westhaven as a very vibrant community that has easy access to a golf club,” said resident Marty Broderick, who plays several times a week at Westhaven and other courses around the region.
She and her husband, Mickey, bought their home three years ago. “We picked Westhaven because of the community,” she said. “And then there’s this golf club. That’s a bonus. It’s turned out to be a wonderful bonus.”
