In time to celebrate the club’s centennial, construction on the project will begin in early 2016, with plans to reopen the golf course, clubhouse, tennis and swim facilities for Memorial Day weekend. Work on platform tennis additions will take place over the summer, with the entire project scheduled to conclude in fall 2016.
A $5 million facilities improvement plan has been approved by the membership at Birmingham (Mich.) Country Club in time for the club to celebrate its centennial.
“BCC is poised to celebrate our 100th year as one of the most diverse and family-oriented clubs in the Metro Detroit area, and the improvements approved by our board and membership will assure that current and future members have access to the most up-to-date facilities and services available,” said General Manager and COO Joseph F. Basso.
The plan includes:

Construction is slated to begin immediately after the first of the year. The golf course, clubhouse, tennis and swim facilities, with completed improvements, are slated to reopen for Memorial Day weekend in 2016. Work on platform tennis additions will take place over the summer and the balance of aquatic improvements will be completed after Labor Day, with the entire project scheduled to conclude in the fall of 2016.
“It’s important to note that more than 89 percent of the membership supported the plan that will update clubhouse, tennis, and aquatic amenities,” Basso said. “The project addresses the needs of today’s members with clubhouse improvements that embrace décor updates to the dining and banquet areas, allowing the club to repurpose some of these areas to provide both adult-centric and family dining.”
The facilities improvement project approval comes on the heels of the completion of a $2.5 million golf course renovation that included re-grassing of tees, greens and fairways, the addition of over 20 miles of drainage lines, significant irrigation improvements that included conversion of an on-course water feature to an irrigation reservoir. It also included new green irrigation, renovation and addition of bunkers, and modifications to two of the 18 holes.
“BCC celebrates its Centennial in 2016, and we believe these improvements not only honor the legacy of our past 100 years, but assure that we remain a premier club of choice for the future,” Basso said. “The overwhelming support of our membership tells us that we are on the right path, and we are extremely proud of that. ”
