Following further study of the plan, the Arvada, Colo., property will likely rebuild its clubhouse at double the size of the original, while lengthening the driving range and relocating the chipping and putting greens.
Arvada City Council has chosen to move forward with more study of a $6.1 million plan that would double the size of the overwhelmed clubhouse at West Woods Golf Club in Arvada, Colo., the Denver Post reported.
Out of five options presented, it was the most affordable and would eventually generate a small profit, District 4 Councilman Bob Dyer said in explaining why it was chosen, the Post reported.
“The option to completely rebuild a new one would have been terrific if we were starting from scratch and there were no houses around,” Dyer said of the $14.8 million option. “There’s nothing we can really do besides trying to improve the existing facility.”
Council directed the consultants and city staff to work out details for the new plan to be presented at a later date for public comment and a formal vote. The selected option will double the size of the clubhouse, lengthen the driving range and relocate the chipping and putting greens, the Post reported.
Now that the Arvada Center has transitioned from a city-run property to a nonprofit, the city is obligated to eventually relocate its banquet facilities from the Arvada Center. Council was not keen on the idea of moving banquet operations to the clubhouse, the Post reported.
