A frosted blended coffee drink wins the favorite summer coffee drink competition at 25%, with iced latte drinks at 15%, and iced tea continues to be the go-to summer drink of those surveyed at 37%.
Zagat released the findings from its first-ever “Summer Food Survey” and the results are reported by Carly Ledbetter of Huffington Post. Americans are passionate about warm-weather iced coffee, ice cream, lobster rolls and carnival food. When it comes to which flavor of ice cream people like the best: it’s cookie’s ‘n cream all the way. Cookies ‘n cream at 24% just edged out perennial favorite, vanilla at 21%. Diners are more willing to try the artisan flavors of ice cream, such as pink peppercorn, chorizo carmel and miso cherry than they have in the past. Of those people surveyed, 40% stated they haven’t tried the artisan ice creams yet, but are more than willing to give them a try.
More than 1,000 people were interviewed for Zagat’s survey, screened based on their average dining frequency and the amount they spend while dining out. The results revealed some interesting preferences related to summer dining: Fancy hot dog styles are in, and hot brewed coffee is out. New York street style hot dogs at 28% are the favorite to survey takers with over 50% preferring ketchup and mustard together as the favorite hot dog topping. And when it comes to carnival food, diners love all types including popcorn, cotton candy and fried oreos, but elephant ears/funnel cakes at 42% and corn dogs at 19% lead the rest of the competition.
The Huffington Post noted that the survey found that during the summer months, people are most likely to skip hot soup, hot coffee, fondue, ramen, meatloaf and red wine. Diners are looking for more grilled fare such as hamburgers and steaks while also enjoying corn on the cob and watermelon. However, diners will not skip coffee flavored in their summer drinks. A frosted blended coffee drink wins the favorite summer coffee drink competition at 25% with iced latte drinks at 15% and iced tea continues to be go-to summer drink of those surveyed at 37%.
Americans continue to love the diversity of summer food when eating at restaurants, clubs, resorts and picnics.
