The proposed $50 million resort, to be built on the former Kutsher’s Country Club property in Monticello, N.Y., would feature 120-130 “suite-formatted” hotel rooms, Eastern and Western medical treatments, yoga, golf, tennis and hydrotherapy.
The wellness resort that is to be built on the former Kutsher’s Country Club property in Monticello, N.Y., has received preliminary site plan approval, the Middletown, N.Y.-based Times Herald-Record reported.
Representatives behind the Veria Lifestyle Wellness Resort project appeared before the Thompson Planning Board on Wednesday evening. The preliminary site plan review was approved unanimously by the board, the Herald-Record reported.
There is one last step before developers can begin clearing trees on the site. According to Gary Silver, the Monticello attorney behind the project, a developer’s agreement must be approved by the Thompson Town Board next week. The agreement, according to Silver, would give the town financial recourse if something were to happen that forced project developers to abandon the project, the Herald-Record reported.
The town and Veria’s bank must agree on an amount the town would be paid if Veria were to leave the project mid-development. But Silver assured that’s not something he sees happening with his project, the Herald-Record reported.
The $50 million resort will feature 120-130 “suite-formatted” hotel rooms. It will offer Eastern and Western medical treatments and activities such as yoga, golf, tennis and hydrotherapy. Silver previously said the resort will create 200 permanent jobs, along with another 200 jobs for the construction of the facility, the Herald-Record reported.
The resort is expected to open by summer of 2016, barring any weather-related issues, the Herald-Record reported.
There has been a change of location for the resort on the old Kutsher’s property. It was originally supposed to be built on the main site of the former country club. However, Veria Lifestyle sought a more picturesque location. So, now it will be built on the west shore of Bailey’s Lake, which is adjacent to Anawana Lake, about a mile southeast of Kutsher’s, the Herald-Record reported.
Those behind the project are eager to begin clearing the trees on the site, and so is at least one planning board member who gave words of encouragement to Veria following the vote, the Herald-Record reported.
“Go cut some trees,” said Planning Board Chairwoman Patrice Chester.
