Donald Trump plans to construct a 548-grave cemetery at the Bedminster, N.J., property that will be open only to club members and military veterans. The 9.8-acre cemetery will be in a wooded area next to the 13th hole, set back 200 feet from the road.
Donald Trump is moving forward with plans to construct a 548-grave cemetery at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, N.J., the Somerville, N.J.-based MyCentralJersey.com reported.
The cemetery, which will be in a wooded area next to the 13th hole of the club’s Old Course, will be open only to club members and military veterans, according to the application filed with the township. The 9.8-acre cemetery will be set back 200 feet from the road. The graves will be encircled by a driveway, MyCentralJersey.com reported.
After Trump National Golf Club went through a lengthy approval process from the township and the state to build a small family cemetery that would have been the real estate magnate’s final resting place, a representative of the Trump Organization told the municipal Land Use Board earlier this year that Trump may instead want to be buried in Florida, MyCentralJersey.com reported.
In 2012, Trump had initially submitted plans for the larger cemetery but withdrew them when he proposed a smaller final resting place for him and his family. But when he decided that he instead wanted to be buried in Florida, Trump returned to the original plan, MyCentralJersey.com reported.
The Land Use Board conducted its first hearing on the cemetery proposal on May 14. The board will have its next hearing on the plan on August 6. The proposal requires a use variance because a cemetery is not a permitted use in the zone, MyCentralJersey.com reported.
