Brookview Golf Course in Golden Valley, Minn., is now renting equipment for the latest alternative to traditional golf that uses a hybrid lacrosse stick/golf club and allows players to play alongside regular golfers, using the same tees and greens.
KSTP ABC 5 in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minn., recently aired a report on how Brookview Golf Course, a municipal property in Golden Valley, Minn. is now renting out sticks to let players try FlingGolf, the latest alternative to traditional golf that uses a hybrid lacrosse stick/golf club and allows players to play alongside regular golfers, using the same tees and greens.
“Our head golf pro brought this to our attention last year,” Brookview assistant manager Kim Straw tells KSTP. “We looked at it, looked at their website, got an idea what it was and then just decided—we’re always looking for new opportunities—so we thought we would offer it at the course this year.
“We’re always looking for ways to get the non-golfer to come to the golf course,” Straw adds. “With the addition of lawn bowling [and] added selections in our grill area, we’re really opening it up to a lot of different and new people that we weren’t seeing at the golf course before.
“Everybody seems interested in it and wants to try it, that’s for sure,” Straw says. “I think it’s more toward a little bit younger crowd. We think we’ll get the younger kids who maybe don’t really like golf—maybe it’s a little difficult for them. FlingGolf is gonna be a lot easier to pick up on.
“You can play right along with the regular golfer,” Straw continues. “If you don’t like golf or haven’t picked up on the game of golf you can still come out, enjoy the golf course and play right along with a golfer.”
Brookview charges $2 to rent a FlingGolf stick, KSTP reported, on top of greens fees.
