The Falls golf course at Grand Falls Casino & Golf Resort in Larchwood, Iowa, opened all 18 holes of Rees Jones’ design on May 20, and East Orange Golf Course in Short Hills, N.J., will reopen May 23 after a year-long closure.
The Falls golf course at Grand Falls Casino & Golf Resort in Larchwood, Iowa, opened all 18 holes of Rees Jones’ design on May 20, the Sioux Falls, S.D.-based KDLT News reported.
“We designed it with varying conditions in mind, the wind and when there’s no wind, a lot of open entrances, a lot of ways to attack the green, so it’s going to be a goal course of never ending pleasure,” said Jones.
The course stretches over seven thousand yards, and has had golfers anxious to tee up and raise money for veterans, KDLT reported.
“We’re raising money to help support the GIVE foundation, which is the golf for injured veterans program that we plan on bringing here in the late summer and fall,” said General Manger Sharon Haselhoff.
By the time those veterans hit the course later this year, it will have already been broken in by those looking for both a challenge and some fun, KDLT reported.
“I think folks are going to find it fair but fun,” said Haselhoff. “It’s challenging for those who are really good golfers, we have five sets of tee boxes but it can also be really fun for those who have never even picked up a club before.”
And Jones says you won’t find just one signature hole at The Falls, KDLT reported.
“This is a signature golf course cause it’s a different type of golf course, it’s really back to the future,” Jones said. “You can play the ground game, the aerial game, the different shots around the green.”
The course is open to the public starting May 21. It’s $55 to play during the week and $65 on the weekend. Both prices include a golf cart as well as range balls, KDLT reported.
Following a year-long closure, the East Orange Golf Course in Short Hills, N.J., will reopen on May 23, the Woodland Park, N.J.-based NorthJersey.com reported.
Nine holes (the original back nine) will be open for play during renovation. All 18 holes will be available beginning July 4. The original first and second holes are being converted to a practice range, which the course did not have previously, and two new holes are being created in their place, NorthJersey.com reported.
The golf course is owned and operated by the City of East Orange and has been undergoing an extensive renovation by golf course architect Stephen Kay. Kay said in a press release the course will be player-friendly and aesthetically appealing. He said all of the greens are being re-sodded with bentgrass, the tees and sand bunkers are being rebuilt and a new irrigation system is being installed, NorthJersey.com reported.
Construction of a new, 6,000 sq. ft. clubhouse and restaurant will begin later this summer, and it will be open for the 2016 golf season. When completed, the golf course will be a par 70 and play to 5,600 yards, NorthJersey.com reported.
