The Golf Industry Show will continue its three-city rotation with Orlando, San Antonio and San Diego through the end of the decade, it was announced in Orlando. Also at this year’s show, Keith Ihms, CGCS, Director of Grounds Maintenance at the Country Club of Little Rock (Ark.), was elected President of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA).
The organizers of the Golf Industry Show (GIS) have finalized plans to conduct their 2019 show in San Diego, it was announced at the end of the 2014 GIS in Orlando.
The announcement confirmed that the GIS will continue its schedule of rotating the show through three cities through the end of this decade. The show’s schedule for the remainder of the decade is as follows:
2015— February 21-26, San Antonio
2016—February 6-11, San Diego
2017—February 4-9, Orlando
2018—February 3-8, San Antonio
2019—February 3-8, San Diego
Next year’s Golf Industry Show in San Antonio will mark the first visit to the Texas city for the event, it was noted.
“We’re excited we will be able to return the Golf Industry Show to San Diego in 2019,” said Rhett Evans, Chief Executive Officer of the Golf Course Superintendents Association (GCSAA), in making the announcement. “The city is an extremely attractive one to our members and GIS attendees, and we’re glad that we can capitalize on the momentum from this year’s tournament, conference and trade show to formally announce our future commitment to San Diego.”
“Orlando, San Antonio and San Diego make a desirable series of locations for owners and operators to strategically plan their golf course operations, network, receive the best continuing education and connect exhibitors with qualified buyers,” added Mike Hughes, Chief Executive Officer of the National Golf Course Owners Association.
Participatin partners in the Golf Industry Show, in addition to the GCSAA and NGCOA, include the Golf Course Builders Association of America, the American Society of Golf Course Architects, the National Golf Foundation, the United States Golf Association, the International Golf Course Equipment Managers Association, and the Society of Golf Appraisers.
In another announcement made at the GIS in Orlando, Keith Ihms, CGCS, and Director of Grounds Maintenance at the Country Club of Little Rock, Ark., was elected as the new President of the GCSAA.
Ihms, who has been with the Country Club of Little Rock since 2005, previously held superintendent positions at Bent Tree Country Club in Dallas; Pine Forest Country Club in Houston; Walden on Lake Houston Golf and Country Club in Humble, Texas; and Golf Crest Country Club in Pearland, Texas.
A 33-year member of the GCSAA, Ihms is also a member of the Arkansas GCSA and a Past President of the Lone Star GCSA, the North Texas GCSA and the South Texas GCSA. He is also a member and Past President of the Texas Turfgrass Association and a member of the USGA Green Section Committee.
A native of Llano, Texas, Ihms graduated from Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas, in 1979 with a Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy.
John J. O’Keefe, CGCS, Director of Golf Course Management at Preakness Hills Country Club in Wayne, N.J., was elected as GCSAA’s new Vice President, and Peter J. Grass, CGCS, Superintendent at Hilands Golf Club in Billings, Mont., was elected Secretary/Treasurer.
Bill H. Maynard, CGCS, Director of Golf Course Maintenance at the Country Club of St. Albans (Mo.), and Rafael Barajas, CGCS, Superintendent of Hacienda Golf Club in La Habra Heights, Calif., were elected to two-year terms on the GCSAA Board of Directors. Mark F. Jordan, CGCS, Natural Resource Leader at Westfield Group Country Club in Westfield Center, Ohio, was appointed by the GCSAA Board to fill the remaining year of Grass’ two-year term as a Director.
Darren J. Davis, Superintendent of Olde Florida Golf Club in Naples, Fla., and John R. Fulling Jr., CGCS, Golf Course Superintendent of Kalamazoo (Mich.) Country Club, will remain on the GCSAA Board with one year remaining in their two-year director terms.
Patrick R. Finlen, CGCS, recently named the new General Manager at The Olympic Club in San Francisco, will serve on the GCSAA board for one year as immediate Past President. Sandy G. Queen, CGCS, Manager of Golf Course Operations for the city of Overland Park, Kan., retires from the GCSAA Board after serving the last year as immediate Past President.
