Glendoveer Golf Course suffered moderate damage to its grounds after the driver of a suspicious vehicle fled and drove onto the course instead of stopping for Portland, Ore. police. The chase ended when the suspect, who is still at large, abandoned the vehicle in a wooded area on the Glendoveer property and fled on foot.
A short police pursuit in Portland, Ore., went through the property and caused moderate damage to the grounds of Glendoveer Golf Course, the Portland Tribune reported.
Sgt. Greg Stewart, a police spokesperson, says officers from the city’s East Precinct were doing routine patrols early on Saturday morning, January 4, when they spotted a suspicious vehicle in the area of the city where Glendoveer, a 36-hole daily-fee facility that also has four indoor tennis courts and a covered, heated driving range, is located, the Tribune reported.
Officers tried to stop the vehicle but the driver sped away and drove onto the golf course, Stewart said. The pursuit started around 5:45 a.m. and several officers from Portland as well as Gresham, Ore., a Portland suburb, assisted with the search, the Tribune reported.
The chase eventually ended when the suspect abandoned the vehicle in a wooded area on the golf course, the Tribune reported. The driver fled on foot and a police K-9 Unit was called to the scene to help track of the suspect, but the police dog was unable to locate the suspect.
Officers now have probable cause to file possible trespassing as well as eluding capture charges against the driver, the Tribune reported.
The amount of damage to the golf course was not immediately known, and officials at Glendoveer declined to comment, the Tribune reported.
