In addition to participating in “World’s Largest Golf Outing” on August 18, the Ohio club is planning a “play date” with Billy Casper on August 21.
Longaberger Golf Club, a Nashport, Ohio property managed by Billy Casper Golf (BCG) is preparing for two special events in mid-August. In addition to being one of more than 80 BCG courses in 24 states that will participate in the “World’s Largest Golf Outing” that will benefit the Wounded Warriors Project, Longaberger, a course owned by the Longaberger Company that makes handcrafted baskets and other home products and accessories, is also planning a “play date” with Masters and U.S. Open Champion Billy Casper on August 21.
The “World’s Largest Golf Outing,” designed to break the current Guinness Book of World Records mark for a simultaneous national golf outing, is expected to attract more than 5,000 golfers in total to the participating BCG courses. At all participating courses, the outing will be open to golfers of all abilities and a USGA handicap will not be required.
At Longaberger, the event will be open to the public at a cost of $79 per player, including greens fee and cart, range balls, boxed lunch, on-course contests and prizes. As at all other participating BCG courses, a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project, the non-profit organization that raises awareness about the needs of injured service members. “Our hats off to Billy Casper Golf for pioneering this very creative program,” says Adam Silva, Chief Development Officer of the Wounded Warrior Project. “The ultimate beneficiaries are the Wounded Warriors and their families who rely on such support.”
On Sunday, August 21, Billy Casper himself will appear at Longaberger for a special “Day with Billy” golf event that is open to the public. Casper, who registered 51 PGA Tour victories in total, will offer tips to golfers through a short-game clinic and also sign autographs, take photos, and eat lunch with golf course patrons.
“Visiting Ohio’s No. 1-ranked public course will be a treat,” says Casper, a member of the PGA and World Golf Hall of Fame. “I enjoy sharing tales and tips with golfers who love the game and its history and traditions.”
“We’re honored that Billy Casper will visit our golf course,” says Danny Ackerman, General Manager of Longaberger Golf Club. “His career, affection for the game and genial personality will make for an experience these golfers won’t soon forget.”
The day’s events will begin at noon with lunch at the clubhouse, followed by the short-game clinic on the practice facility and golf at 2 p.m. The event fee will $79 per person for all activities. Each event will be closed to “Day with Billy” participants only; individual event tickets will not be sold.
